چکیده

Figure 1. Breakdown of the memory performance for the declarative and implicit tasks. left panel: Subjects having undergone sleep manipulation show a significantly reduced number of true positive responses and an increase in the false negative responses (forgotten items). The absence of differences in the true negative and false positive categories indicates that the memory performance after shallow sleep is characterized by increased forgetting rather than adopting a different response strategy (error bars: standard errors of the mean). right panel: Average reaction time differences for the blocks of random and fixed sequences in the SRT task. The graphs show that the fixed sequences have a ~40 millisecond performance improvement relative to the random sequences. This learning effect, in the absence of awareness of the fixed sequence, does not differ between the two sleep conditions.

Respiration during sleep in normal man.

Respiratory volumes and timing have been measured in 19 healthy adults during wakefulness and sleep. Minute ventilation was significantly less (p less than 0.05) in all stages of sleep than when the subject was awake (7.66 +/- 0.34(SEM) 1/min), the level in rapid-eye-movement (REM) sleep (6.46 +/- 0.29 1/min) being significantly lower than in non-REM sleep (7.18 +/- 0.39 1/min). The breathing p...

Investigating the role of hydromechanical coupling on flow and transport in shallow fractured-rock aquifers

Fractured-rock aquifers display spatially and temporally variable hydraulic conductivity generally attributed to variable fracture intensity and connectivity. Empirical evidence suggests fracture aperture and hydraulic conductivity are sensitive to in situ stress. This study investigates the sensitivity of fractured-rock hydraulic conductivity, groundwater flow paths, and advectiondominated tra...
